About us....
Our Origins...
The Big Bear Amateur Radio Club was established in 1975 with the purpose
to promote to the general public the merits of ham radio and it's future in the national and
international world of tomorrow.
Supporting the Community...
The club shall provide service to the local community in times of a disaster or major emergency to
assist with emergency communications if and when the need should arise.
Supporting Ham Radio...
The club functions as a hub for the ham radio community and
assists in the promotion of ham radio by the training of all who desire to ultimately become
FCC licensed ham radio operators.
The Club Today...
Originating in the Alpine style village of Big Bear Lake, California, the club membership currently
extends from San Francisco to San Diego, from Eastern Arizona to the Pacific coast, with the
majority of the membership populating 6 of the 7 Southern California counties.
Our Open Repeaters...
Being in Big Bear Lake at an altitude of 6,750 ft, the club maintains two open repeaters
(VHF-UHF TASMA / SCRRBA coordinated) on a local mountain top at 8,700+ ft.
They supply coverage to most of Southern California and parts of Nevada and Arizona.... with
EchoLink extending that coverage via the internet to world wide.
Our Meetings...
The Big Bear Amateur Radio Club's meetings are on the last Saturday of the month
with the exception of August and December (weather conditions permitting)
BBARC meetings are held at the Big Bear Lake Fire Department with the
Tech Hour starting at 2:00 PM and the general meeting starting at 3:00.
